The Keys to Hydration

Five Simple Keys to Starting and Maintaining Your Daily Hydration

Hydration is not something you think about often. Most people just drink when they're thirsty, and that's it. But hydration is good for more than just curing a dry throat. There are so many amazing things that come from being well-hydrated, but hydration isn't just a benefit: it's a necessity! Your body MUST be hydrated, just like how you need to eat food. However, how well you stay hydrated is up to you. Again, just like food, you are in charge of what is going in to your body.

Hydration is so much more than just taking a few sips of water a day, which is something not a lot of people know. But before we get into just HOW you can hydrate, we're going to tell you WHY you should in the first place.

Why Should You Stay Hydrated?

There are a myriad of reasons you should prioritize hydration. If you've ever looked into beauty and self care like myself, you'll often hear the joke, "Just drink water." Water has so many benefits that it could fix just about anything, supposedly. So here are just a few reasons:

1. Enhance Your Physical Performance

The human body is made up of roughly 60-70% water. During physical activity, the body uses this water to maintain body temperature, which produces sweat. Water also lubricates the muscles and joints you use not just daily but especially during physical activity. Without proper hydration, your physical performance would not be at its maximum.

2. Healthy, Glowing Skin

Water helps keep your skin cells healthy and hydrated, promoting elasticity which will save you from wrinkles. Drinking water will also help prevent blemishes and clear your acne. Water also just generally helps your skin stay smooth, feeling soft, and looking brand new.

3. Lose Weight

Drinking water increases your calorie burning, which will speed up the weight loss process. By replacing sugary beverages with water, you are still receiving the hydration you need for zero calories. Water is also necessary to burn fat, so it is important to make sure you are drinking enough.

4. Improve Your Mood

Drinking water improves your mood because it keeps you energized. It will help you feel more awake, refreshed, and ready for the day. Scientifically, there have been studies made that connect hydration to your mood. Often times, people have shown signs of moodiness and irritation when they are dehydrated. Drinking water will help both your body and your mind!

5. Maintain a Healthy Blood Pressure

Our blood is actually mostly made up of water. Dehydration can lead to the blood thinning in our body, which can lead to bad blood pressure. Drinking enough water can help the blood flow smoothly in your body, keeping you happy and healthy.

How Do I Achieve This?

In order to become more hydrated and receive all the benefits that come with that, you're going to need one key thing before anything else: patience. Results are not simultaneous, and you won't completely change overnight. Patience and determination are necessary characteristics to being on the right track to a happier and healthier life.

How much water should I be drinking?

For optimal hydration, the average person should be drinking about eight glasses containing eight ounces a day. To accomplish this, just remember “Eight times eight” because you should be drinking eight ounces eight times a day. Another way to remember how much water to drink is by using Cuptify’s hydration tracker water bottles.

Food for Hydration

You can do more than just drink water to stay hydrated. You can also eat foods that are rich with water but taste amazing! Watermelon has a water content of 92%, strawberries are 91%, cantaloupe is 90%, and peaches are 89%. That’s only to name a few. Eating foods that have a high water content can help you stay hydrated and energized, which is why so many people enjoy eating watermelon on a hot summer day.
